Love your sheepskin, and want to keep it looking great - we’ve got you covered!

The key thing to remember about your sheepskin is that it is a natural product and that has been treated with natural tried and tested methods. Therefore when considering how to to wash you sheepskin it is probably best to start with the Don’ts rather the Do’s ……

DON’Ts

  • Stay away from the washing machine - We advise that you do not wash your sheepskin in the washing machine. Some sheepskin manufacturers claim that you can get away with washing your sheepskin in the washing machine on a very low heat, and delicate cycle, however we prefer to er on the side of caution. Our sheepskin rugs are treated using natural methods therefore should you wash your sheepskin there is a chance that the rugs can end up altering their shape and size, so stay away from the washing machine.

  • Do not submerge your sheepskin in water - You may not know but some sheepskins have been treated using natural methods that include salting of the sheepskin rugs for months. This is preserve the sheepskin, promote antibacterial properties and if you choose to bathe your sheepskin rug you would be undoing the benefits of this treatment that the sheepskin rug has undergone. We understand there may be spots where something has spilt on the rug, or there is a stain, in these instances we advise you delicately sponge off with cold water, and avoid at all cost submerging the whole rug.

DO’s

  • Dry clean your sheepskin rug. - We advise that you vigorously beat, shake your rugs outside. It is important to shake away all the dust that has accumulated on them. This will also help with ensuring your sheepskin stays smelling fresh. After all sheepskin rugs are a natural material and they do absorb odours, and if you do not look after them they could become a breeding grounds for dust mites and other nasty creepy crawlies.

  • Ventilate your sheepskin rug - Believe it or not your sheepskin does like to see the sunshine every once in a while. Some sheepskin manufacturers encourage ventilating your sheepskin rugs outside as this replenishes the benefits of the sheepskin rugs. Please be careful not to leave to your sheepskin in direct sunlight as this could alter the colouring but we definitely advise airing out your rugs every once in a while

  • Brush out the bobbles - Every once in the while, the hairs on your sheepskin can end up tangled and knotted. We advise that you regularly brush your sheepskin rug to ensure the hairs do not end up matted and tangled. Use a dog brush or a strong brush with bristles so that you can truly untangle all the knots.

With love,
